Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
A representative from Lora Adventures Africa will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha.
Arusha is a lively city sitting at the base of Mount Meru and the starting point for this trip. If you arrive during the day, the town centre is worth a short walk. Your safari begins the following morning.
Overnight: Parrot Hotel Arusha or similar mid-range hotel.
Meal Plan: Half Board.
Day 2: Fly to the Serengeti
After breakfast, we transfer you to the airport for your morning flight into the Serengeti. Flying directly into the park means your first game drive begins shortly after landing, with no long road transit eating into your day.
Your guide meets you at the airstrip and we head out into the central Serengeti toward camp, stopping wherever wildlife activity warrants it. A picnic lunch is served in the field along the way.
Overnight: Tamba Tented Camp or similar mid-range accommodation.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Days 3 and 4: Full Days in the Serengeti
Two full days with no transfers and no other parks. This is where the safari finds its pace.
Early mornings are the most productive time to be in the field. Your guide will plan each day around current wildlife movements, covering different parts of the park so both days feel distinct. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, and buffalo all live in the Serengeti, and with two full days you have time to follow whatever the bush presents without rushing.
Depending on the time of year, the Great Migration herds may be moving through the area. Migration patterns follow the rains and cannot be predicted precisely, but your guide will position you in the best area based on current conditions.
On Day 4, a sunrise hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti is available as an optional add-on. The flight covers the plains at first light and ends with a bush breakfast under an acacia tree. Spots are limited and need to be booked in advance, so let us know when you enquire if this is something you would like to include.
Overnight: Tamba Tented Camp or similar mid-range accommodation.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, we drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the crater for a half-day game drive.
The crater floor covers about 260 square kilometres and supports a wide variety of wildlife within its walls. Black rhino, lion, elephant, buffalo, and hippo all live here, and the enclosed landscape creates a very different game viewing experience from the open Serengeti plains. We have a picnic lunch at a scenic spot inside the crater, then ascend to the rim for the evening.
The views from the crater rim lodge at sunset, looking out over the caldera and the highland forest, are one of the more memorable moments of this itinerary.
Overnight: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge or similar accommodation.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 6: Fly to Zanzibar, Arrive in Stone Town
After breakfast, we transfer to Manyara Airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar. You arrive on the island by early afternoon, trading the cool highland air of the crater for the warmth and humidity of the Indian Ocean coast.
We transfer you to your hotel in Stone Town. In the evening, Forodhani Gardens are worth a visit. This waterfront park comes alive after sunset when local vendors set up food stalls selling Zanzibar mix, grilled seafood, sugarcane juice, and other local street food. It is a relaxed and genuine introduction to Stone Town life.
Overnight: Golden Tulip Stone Town Boutique or similar mid-range hotel.
Meal Plan: Breakfast
Day 7: Rest Day in Stone Town
A day with no fixed programme. Stone Town has narrow streets, old mosques, the historic old fort, and the seafront all within easy walking distance. The pace here is slow and the architecture is worth exploring without a schedule.
If you prefer to spend the day by the water, the hotel can arrange beach transfers to nearby spots on the island.
Overnight: Golden Tulip Stone Town Boutique or similar mid-range hotel.
Meal Plan: Breakfast
Day 8: Safari Blue Tour & Snorkeling
A full day on the water in Menai Bay Conservation Area, south of Zanzibar. The Safari Blue tour is done by traditional wooden dhow and includes snorkelling over coral reefs, swimming in open lagoons, and a stop on a sandbank for swimming and photos.
A seafood lunch is served at Kwale Island before the dhow heads back to the starting point at Fumba Village, where your driver will be waiting to transfer you back to the hotel.
Overnight: Golden Tulip Stone Town Boutique or similar mid-range hotel.
Meal Plan: Breakfast
Day 9: Stone Town Walking Tour and Souvenir Shopping
This morning a local guide takes you on a walking tour through Stone Town. The tour covers the history and architecture of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, including the old slave market site, the House of Wonders, the Old Fort, and the carved wooden doors that are one of the most distinctive features of the town.
Stone Town is one of the best places in East Africa to shop for souvenirs. The Darajani Market and the streets around it carry spices, handmade jewellery, Zanzibar chests, Tinga Tinga paintings, and locally made fabrics. Take your time and enjoy the experience.
Overnight: Golden Tulip Stone Town Boutique or similar mid-range hotel.
Meal Plan: Breakfast
Day 10: Departure
If you still have a few hours before your transfer, the streets around Forodhani Gardens and the harbour front are pleasant for a final walk. Any last souvenir shopping can be done around Darajani Market, which opens early.
