Tour Plan
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
A representative from Lora Adventures Africa will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha.
Arusha is a pleasant starting point. If you arrive during the day, the town centre is worth a short walk before the journey begins the following morning.
Overnight: Parrot Hotel Arusha or similar mid-range hotel.
Meal Plan: Half Board.
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, we drive about 2.5 hours to Tarangire National Park for a full day game drive.
Tarangire is a strong way to open a safari. The park is known for its large elephant herds that gather along the Tarangire River, and the ancient baobab trees that shape its landscape. Lions, giraffes, zebra, and buffalo are also commonly encountered. We have a picnic lunch inside the park, then drive to Karatu for the evening.
Overnight: Bougainvillea Safari Lodge or similar mid-range lodge.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater then transfer to Serengeti
An early start today. We drive about 30 to 45 minutes to the Ngorongoro Crater rim and descend into the caldera for a morning game drive.
The crater floor covers about 260 square kilometres and supports a wide variety of wildlife within its walls. Black rhino, lion, elephant, buffalo, and hippo all live here, and the enclosed landscape creates an intimate game viewing experience. After a picnic lunch at a scenic spot inside the crater, we ascend and continue west toward the Serengeti, arriving at camp in the late afternoon.
Overnight: Tamba Tented Camp or similar mid-range accommodation.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 4: Full Day in the Serengeti
A full day in the Serengeti with no transfers and no other parks.
We head out early when predators are most active and the light is at its best. Your guide will follow current wildlife movements through the day, covering the central plains, river systems, and rocky kopjes. Picnic lunch is in the field and the evening is back at camp.
Overnight: Tamba Tented Camp or similar mid-range accommodation.
Meal Plan:Â Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 5: Another Full Day in the Serengeti
A second full day means you can cover parts of the park not reached yesterday. The Serengeti is large enough that no two days feel the same.
Depending on the time of year, the Great Migration herds may be moving through the area. Migration patterns follow the rains and cannot be predicted precisely, but your guide will position you in the best area based on current conditions. Picnic lunch in the field and a relaxed evening at camp.
Overnight: Tamba Tented Camp or similar mid-range accommodation.
Meal Plan:Â Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 6: Serengeti to Lake Eyasi
After breakfast, we leave the Serengeti and drive toward Lake Eyasi in the Rift Valley, south of the Ngorongoro highlands. The journey takes about 4 to 6 hours depending on road conditions and stops along the way.
Lake Eyasi sits in a remote, dusty basin and feels genuinely off the beaten path. The landscape is stark and flat, very different from both the Serengeti and the crater highlands you have just left. You arrive at the lodge in the afternoon with time to rest before the early start the following morning.
Overnight: Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge or similar mid-range lodge.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 7: Hadzabe Encounter at Lake Eyasi
An early start for a morning with the Hadzabe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer communities in Africa. The Hadzabe have lived around Lake Eyasi for thousands of years and continue to hunt and forage using traditional methods.
The morning typically involves going out with hunters, learning how they track and hunt with bows and arrows, and understanding how they read the bush for food and resources. Their language is built around click sounds and is one of the oldest linguistic systems in the world. It is an experience that is hard to compare to anything else on this trip.
The afternoon is free to relax at the lodge before the travel day to Zanzibar.
Overnight: Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge or similar mid-range lodge.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 8: Fly to Zanzibar
After breakfast, we drive to Arusha Airport for your afternoon flight to Zanzibar. Our driver meets you at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport and transfers you to your hotel in Nungwi on the northern tip of the island.
The shift from the dry Rift Valley basin to the warm, humid air of the Indian Ocean coast is a welcome transition into the second half of your honeymoon.
Overnight: Nungwi Garden Boutique or similar mid-range hotel
Meal Plan: Breakfast
Day 9: Rest Day at Nungwi
A day with no programme and no schedule. Nungwi beach is right outside and the water stays swimmable throughout the day due to the favourable tides on the northern coast.
If you would like a spa treatment, your hotel can help arrange this directly.
Overnight: Nungwi Garden Boutique or similar mid-range hotel
Meal Plan: Breakfast
Day 10: Dolphins and Mnemba Atoll
An early start for a boat excursion departing directly from Nungwi beach. The boat heads out toward Mnemba Atoll in search of dolphins. Spinner and bottlenose dolphins are commonly seen in these waters, and swimming alongside them is sometimes possible depending on conditions on the day.
After the dolphin encounter, the boat continues to Mnemba Atoll, one of the best snorkelling spots in Zanzibar. The coral reef around the atoll supports a rich variety of marine life and the water clarity here is excellent. The boat returns to Nungwi in the afternoon.
Overnight: Nungwi Garden Boutique or similar mid-range hotel.
Meals: Breakfast
Day 11: Another Rest Day at Nungwi
A day with no programme and no schedule. Nungwi beach is right outside and the water stays swimmable throughout the day due to the favourable tides on the northern coast.
If you would like a spa treatment, your hotel can help arrange this directly.
Overnight: Nungwi Garden Boutique or similar mid-range hotel
Meal Plan: Breakfast
Day 12: Sunset Dhow Cruise
A free day to enjoy Nungwi at your own pace before the evening activity.
In the late afternoon, you board a traditional wooden dhow for a sunset cruise along the coast. The light over the Indian Ocean at that hour is one of those things that stays with you. The boat returns after sunset.
Overnight: Nungwi Garden Boutique or similar mid-range hotel
Meal Plan: Breakfast
Day 13: Another Rest Day at Nungwi
A final full day at the beach before departure tomorrow. Nungwi has a relaxed fishing village atmosphere and the northern coastline is pleasant for a long walk if you want to explore beyond the hotel.
Overnight: Nungwi Garden Boutique or similar mid-range hotel
Meal Plan: Breakfast
Day 14: Departure
When you are ready, our representative will transfer you to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) for your departure flight. If time allows before your transfer, Nungwi beach is right there for a final walk or swim.
