Why We Fly
Before booking a safari, it is important to understand how you will spend your time. Many travelers don’t realize that a traditional driving circuit involves over 25 hours of transit on bumpy, unpaved roads. At Lora Adventures, we value your time. Our “Air-Link” itineraries are designed to cut the commute and double your wildlife viewing hours.
| Feature | Standard Driving Safari | Lora “Air-Link” Safari |
| Total Transit Time | 25+ Hours (Road) | ~4 Hours (Flight) |
| Days Lost to Travel | 2 to 3 Days | 0 Days |
| Wildlife Exposure | Limited by road fatigue | Maximized from Day 1 |
| Comfort Level | High dust & “African Massage” | Clean, scenic, and relaxed |
| Serengeti Access | Full-day drive | 60-minute scenic flight |
| Zanzibar Transition | Long drive + flight from Arusha | Direct flight from the Bush |
The Lora Difference: Locally Owned, World-Class
In a market with hundreds of options, Lora Adventures leads by example. We are a locally owned company dedicated to proving that Tanzanian hospitality can set the global standard for professionalism and consistency. When you travel with us, you aren’t just a tourist; you are a guest of a team that deeply loves and understands this land. We lead with heart, ensuring your adventure is effortless and unforgettable.
The Lora "Air-Link" Advantage: More Safari, Less Driving
In a traditional 9-day tour, travelers spend nearly 25 hours inside a vehicle just moving between locations. We turn those travel days back into vacation days.
- The Serengeti Jump: Skip the 8-hour drive from Arusha and arrive in the heart of the action in just 60 minutes.
- The Manyara Shortcut: Instead of driving back across the plains, a short flight to Manyara Airstrip puts you at the doorstep of the Ngorongoro Crater.
- The Bush-to-Beach Express: Move from the crater highlands directly to the Zanzibar coast in a single morning, skipping the city traffic of Arusha.
- Total Comfort: Avoid the “African massage” roads and arrive at every destination refreshed and dust-free.
The Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
A representative from Lora Adventures Africa will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha.
Arusha is a lively city at the base of Mount Meru and the starting point for this trip. If you arrive during the day, the town centre and local market area are worth a short walk. Your safari begins the following morning with a flight into the Serengeti.
Overnight: Parrot Hotel Arusha or similar mid-range hotel.
Meal Plan: Half Board.
Day 2: Fly to the Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, we transfer you to the airport for your morning flight over the Rift Valley into the Serengeti. The aerial view of the plains as you descend is a good introduction to the scale of the park.
Your guide meets you at the airstrip and the game drive begins shortly after landing. Flying in means you skip the full day of road travel and arrive in the park with time to explore. We drive through the central Serengeti toward camp, stopping wherever wildlife activity warrants it, and have a picnic lunch in the field.
Overnight: Tamba Tented Camp or similar mid-range accommodation.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Days 3–4: Full Days in the Serengeti
Two full days with no transfers, no airstrips, and no other parks to think about. This is where the trip finds its pace.
Early mornings are the best time to be in the field. The air is cool, the light is good, and predators tend to be active before the heat sets in. Your guide will plan each day around current wildlife movements, which can vary significantly from one area to another. The Serengeti is large enough that the two days will not feel repetitive.
Depending on the time of year, the Great Migration herds may be moving through the area. If the timing and location align, your guide will position you accordingly, though migration patterns are always subject to nature and cannot be predicted precisely.
Picnic lunches are served in the field, and evenings are back at camp.
- Optional: Sunrise Hot Air Balloon Safari with a champagne bush breakfast.
Overnight: Tamba Tented Camp or similar mid-range accommodation.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 5: Fly to Manyara & The Ngorongoro Crater
After a final Serengeti breakfast, we fly to Manyara Airport, then drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From the rim, we descend about 600 metres into the crater floor for an afternoon game drive.
The Ngorongoro Crater is a collapsed volcanic caldera covering about 260 square kilometres. It supports a wide variety of wildlife within its walls, including black rhino, lion, elephant, buffalo, and hippo. The landscape shifts between open grassland, swamp, and the shoreline of a soda lake, each section with its own wildlife. We have lunch at a scenic spot inside the crater before ascending in the evening.
Overnight: Bouganivillea Safari Lodge or similar mid-range lodge.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 6: Fly to Zanzibar Island
This morning we drive to Manyara Airport and fly directly to Zanzibar. You arrive on the island by lunchtime, trading the cool highland air of the crater for the warm humidity of the Indian Ocean coast.
We transfer you to your hotel in Stone Town, where you can settle in and rest. In the evening, Forodhani Gardens are worth a visit. This waterfront park comes alive after sunset when local vendors set up food stalls selling Zanzibar mix, grilled seafood, sugarcane juice, and other local street food. It is a good introduction to Stone Town and a relaxed way to spend your first evening on the island.
Overnight: Golden Tulip Stone Town Boutique or similar mid-range hotel.
Meal Plan: Breakfast
Days 7: Prison Island & Nakupenda Sandbank
After breakfast, we take a short boat ride to Prison Island (Changuu Island). The island has an interesting history as a former quarantine station and later a detention facility, and it is now home to a sanctuary of Aldabra giant tortoises, some of which are over a century old.
From there, we continue by boat to Nakupenda Sandbank, a small strip of white sand that appears at low tide in the middle of clear shallow water. It is a good spot for swimming and photos before the boat returns you to Stone Town in the afternoon.
Stone Town is one of the best places in East Africa to shop for souvenirs. The Darajani Market and the streets around it are full of spices, handmade jewellery, Zanzibar chests, Tinga Tinga paintings, and locally made fabrics. Prices are negotiable, so take your time and enjoy the experience.
Overnight: Golden Tulip Stone Town Boutique or similar mid-range hotel.
Meal Plan: Breakfast
Days 8: Safari Blue Tour
A full day on the water in Menai Bay Conservation Area, south of Zanzibar. The Safari Blue tour is done by traditional wooden dhow and includes snorkelling over coral reefs, swimming in open lagoons, and a stop on a sandbank for swimming and photos.
A seafood lunch is served at Kwale Island before the dhow heads back to Stone Town in the late afternoon.
Overnight: Golden Tulip Stone Town Boutique or similar mid-range hotel.
Meal Plan: Breakfast
Day 9: Departure
If you still have time before your transfer, Stone Town is worth one last walk. Any souvenir shopping you did not get to on Day 7 can be done this morning. The spice stalls and craft shops around Darajani Market open early and are easy to reach on foot from most hotels in the area.
When you are ready, our representative will transfer you to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) for your departure flight.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it better to fly between parks than to drive?
? For a 9-day itinerary, flying is essential. It saves nearly two full days of travel time, allowing you to stay three nights in the Serengeti instead of just one.
What is the luggage limit for these flights?
Due to the small aircraft, there is a strict limit of 15kg (33lbs) per person in soft-sided bags. We can assist with storage for excess luggage in Arusha if necessary.
Will I see the Great Migration on this trip?
Yes. We adjust your Serengeti camp location based on the time of year to ensure you are in the best position to see the herds
What should I pack for a safari and beach combo?
Neutral-colored layers for the safari and light resort wear for Zanzibar. Don’t forget high-SPF sunscreen and a good hat!
How safe is the wildlife viewing?
Very safe. You are always with an expert Lora Adventures guide who understands animal behavior and ensures a respectful, safe distance at all times.
Why choose a locally owned company like Lora?
Local ownership means your travel spend stays in Tanzania, supporting local families and conservation efforts. It also guarantees a more intimate, expert connection to the culture.
