Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp – Rainforest Entry
Begin at Londorossi Gate (2,100m), trekking 6 km through pristine rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m). The 3-4 hour hike reveals monkeys, birds, and lush vegetation. Settle into tents after a warm dinner from your crew, surrounded by the tranquil forest. This gentle start launches your scenic Lemosho adventure with nature’s embrace.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp – Moorland Unveiled
Hike 8 km from Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) over 5-6 hours, transitioning from rainforest to moorland. Enjoy sweeping views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak. Camp amid heather and open skies, dining under the stars. The gradual ascent and scenic beauty make this day a highlight of the Lemosho Route.
Day 3: Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp – Plateau Traverse
Trek 7 km across the Shira Plateau to Shira 2 Camp (3,900m) in 4-5 hours, with panoramic vistas of Kilimanjaro’s western flank. The gentle terrain aids acclimatization as you reach camp. Savor a hot meal and rest in tents, surrounded by expansive moorland, setting the stage for higher altitudes ahead.
Day 4: Shira 2 to Barranco Camp – Lava Tower Acclimatization
Climb 11 km over 6-8 hours from Shira 2 to Barranco Camp (3,976m) via Lava Tower (4,600m). Ascend for acclimatization, then descend through alpine desert to the dramatic Barranco Valley. The Barranco Wall looms ahead as you dine and sleep in tents. This day’s stunning contrasts and altitude gain boost your summit readiness.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp – Wall Challenge
Scale the Barranco Wall on a 5 km, 4-6 hour trek to Karanga Camp (3,995m). Navigate steep scrambles with jaw-dropping views, descending into Karanga Valley. Lunch en route fuels you for the moderate ascent. Rest at camp with dinner, acclimatizing further as the route’s scenic diversity rugged cliffs and valleys unfolds around you.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp – Summit Base
Hike 4 km from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,673m) over 4-5 hours across barren alpine desert. Conserve energy at this summit base, enjoying an early dinner and briefing from your guides. Rest in tents under a stark, rocky landscape, preparing for the midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak on this high-success route.
Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp – Summit Triumph
Start at midnight, climbing 5 km to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) in 6-8 hours through scree and snow, reaching the summit at sunrise. Celebrate at Africa’s highest point, then descend 10 km to Mweka Camp (3,100m) over 5-7 hours. After a hearty dinner, sleep in tents amid rainforest, exhausted but elated from the Lemosho Route’s crowning achievement.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Descent & Celebration
Descend 10 km from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,640m) in 3-5 hours through lush rainforest. Collect your summit certificate, bid farewell to your crew, and transfer to Arusha or Moshi. Reflect on the most scenic route’s beauty and your success, ending with a well-earned rest.

- Accommodation: Tents with sleeping mats on the mountain, pre/post-climb lodging in Arusha/Moshi (1 night each).
